Palenque, Feb. 13 and 14

On Feb. 13 we traveled all day by bus from Merida to Palenque to our lodge in the national park. On Feb. 14 we went to the Palenque archeological site.

While Palenque is not the largest site, you sure do get your money’s worth.

Uxmal and Kabah, Feb. 12

Feb. 12 was an open day where we could chose from optional activities. Several of us added a day trip to an additional site: the ruins at Uxmal.

Uxmal is notable for being in one of the few hilly areas in the Yucatan.

Chichen Itza, Feb. 11

Our tour leader was late because of airline delays in the US (he had been taking his own vacation in Switzerland). Also, two of our tour group turned up late. Once we got all of that sorted, we were off in a van for our first Mayan site: Chichen Itza.

Chichen Itza is one of the more popular Mayan sites. Perhaps too popular, since you can’t climb up any of the pyramids any more. Continue reading
