Fes started at the 8th century capital of the Idrisids.

There was a medina settled by Andalusians and another settled by Tunisians. When the Almoravids came back to Fes, they joined them into one medina. Fes became a capital again in the 13th century.

Fes is noted for its tanneries. They’re stinky, but the leather work is good.

Casablanca is the plain old capital. Also, it is home to the 3rd largest mosque in the world.
