Bonus Ruins

On the way back into Guatemala from Copán, we added a stop at the associated site of Quiriguá to the itinerary. It is located in the middle of the vast Chiquita banana plantations.

This site has quite a few stellae, some of them quite tall and amazingly intact, including the tallest stone monumental statue in the Americas.

All by myself

On Wednesday we saw the main center of the ruins at Copán which lightly visited on that day. But on Thursday it was just the guide, six archeological workers, and me at the area called Rastojón.

Many buildings, like this one, were built on limestone which is why they are now 50 feet downhill from where they started. Oops.
