An older capital

The thing to see in Granada is the Alhambra. After the Caliphate of Cordoba fell apart and the Christian kingdoms started picking off the taifas and the Almoravid and Almohad dynasties collapsed, the Nasrid Emirate was the last Muslim land standing in Spain and their court was in the Alhambra.

A “new” capital

As the capital of Spain was only moved from Toledo to Madrid in 16th century, it’s pretty new as far as European capitals go. Heck, they had to rebuild it 77 years later becasue it burned down.
