Western Belize is known for its caves. I and some others when to the small nearby ruins at Xunantunich. There&#8217;s a hand-cranked ferry that leads to the site.<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_4108.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_4108.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4108\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-522\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a small out of the way site, but it does get crowded midday since it&#8217;s the closest ruin site to the cruise ship docks in Belize City. We were leaving about the time busses started showing up.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the temples can be ascended, including the highest castillo.<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_4121.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_4121.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4121\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-521\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_4137.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_4137.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4137\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-520\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are some good inscriptions on either side of the castillo. These are actually reproductions; the originals were reburied to protect them.<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_4128.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/IMG_4128.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_4128\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-519\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We traveled by water taxi to Caye Caulker.
