On Feb. 14 we went to the Palenque archeological site.<\/p>\n<p>While Palenque is not the largest site, you sure do get your money&#8217;s worth.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3579.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3579.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3579\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-463\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3595.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3595.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3595\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-462\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nWhile Pakal&#8217;s sarcophagus has been removed to the museum along wiht other items, the red queen&#8217;s sarcophagus is still in place.<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3594.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3594.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3594\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-461\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Palace&#8221; area has these T-shaped openings that mark the areas uses as an observatory, as the mark solar alignemnts for different days of the year.<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3615.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3615.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3615\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-464\" \/><\/a>The Palace also still has some of the colored painting.<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3619.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3619.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3619\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-459\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3603.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3603.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3603\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-460\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Climbing the Temples of the Cross is still allowed, and one still has the original painted inscriptions.<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3630.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3630.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3630\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-458\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3629.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3629.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3629\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-457\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3631.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3631.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3631\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-456\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3643.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3643.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3643\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-455\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The museum house some of the more delicate findings that could not be left out in the weather, and a large display of Pakal&#8217;s sarcophagus with explanations of all the writing on it.<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3661.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3661.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3661\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-453\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3683.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_3683.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3683\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-454\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Feb. 13 we traveled all day by bus from Merida to Palenque to our lodge in the national park.
