Actually both Rapperswil and Baden are outside of the Canton of Z\u00fcrich as well.<\/p>\n<p>Rapperswil is at the south end of the lake, at the narrow separation between Z\u00fcrichsee and Obersee.<\/p>\n<p>Rapperswil is known as the &#8220;City of Roses&#8221; (just like Portland!) though the rose gardens aren&#8217;t much to look at in this season. There&#8217;s one specifically design for the blind, with signs posted in Braille.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_2977.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_2977.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2977\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-322\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a Capuchin Monastery and of course a big castle on a hill.<!--more--><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_2973.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_2973.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2973\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-323\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_2976.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_2976.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2976\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-321\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_2986.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_2986.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2986\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-320\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Rapperswil City museum is only a few years old. It has a modern central building connected to a historic building on either side for various exhibit rooms. They have part of one arranged like an actual historic residence.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_2989.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_2989.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2989\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-318\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I walked across the reconstructed wooden footbridge to the village of Hurden. The very first footbridge here dates back to 1600 BC. There&#8217;s a tiny chapel on the island partway across.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_2992.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_2992.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2992\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-319\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Stein Castle in Baden was clearly left to ruin becasue people were tired of climbing all the stairs to fix it.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_3001.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_3001.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3001\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-327\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThe City Tower is in good shape, though.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_2995.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_2995.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2995\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-325\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The old city also has a cover bridge still in use.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_3005.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/atw.pushingrectangles.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_3005.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3005\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-324\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, due to poor planning on my part I couldn&#8217;t get to some of the things on my list for Baden, like the historical museum, because a lot of things are closed on Mondays.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I finally broke out of the city of Z\u00fcrich.
